BookmakingĬhildren learn how to make a book with colored or white paper and a stapler. They learn procedures for using the markers and cleaning and storing the lap boards. Dry Erase BoardsĬhildren explore with dry erase boards. We discuss rules for painting and cleaning up. We use the tempera paint cups (which are available in the art center every day). They learn to wash their brush at the sink before storing it in the paint box. The children learn how to wet the brush and the paint, and clean the brush in the water cup before getting a new color. Painting with Water ColorĬhildren paint using a water cup and water color paint set. As they catch it, they tell their name and a favorite thing (one day, we’ll have everyone say their favorite ice cream, another day their favorite color, another day their TV show, etc.) We have one of those soft, stuffed globes from Hugg-a-Planet that we use. Activities Toss the Ball During the first few weeks of school, children explore almost all of the main materials in our classroom while learning rules for using them.
Everything in our classroom has a place, and it stays in the same place all year, so that children can find things and put them away more easily.
Children learn how to organize the classroom, putting things back where they go. Our lessons and activities are centered around learning the rules and procedures of the classroom, but the children are having fun at the same time.
